Rear end in my 97 is making noise. Seem to think it is a wheel bearing.
I took the car to my regular mechanic and he got the brakes and cover off and couldn't get the axles to come out thus it got all put back together and is still making noise.

Any reccomendations on someone competent enough to handle the job?

Rodeheaver's.
The axles actually aren't that hard to get out. Did he forget to pull the c clips?

Couldn't get them out to release the axles

Pull brake components off. Pull rear end cover, enjoy wonderful smell of gear lube. Remove bolt that holds center pin in diff, pull center pin, push in axles, remove c-clips, pull axle out. Can replace wheel bearings and seals in under 5 minutes once axles are out with 5lb slide hammer and bearing adapter.

If the axles won't push in, the splines are twisted and a 10# sledge will be required.

as Ed said a slide hammer is preferred, but I have a chunk of 1" met conduit I can put in one side to get behind the bearing and pop it out with a hammer from the opposite side

I was told my 97 disc rear has anti lock brake sensors in it that if not removed will prevent the axles from pushing in to release the center clip. I am thinking that's what our issue was

Should only be one small bolt holding sensor to plate for caliper bracket. Sensor is probably hitting tone ring when trying to push in axle.

I'd guess a '97 would look similar. Big hole to right is for sensor.
