Well guys Im taking my Z06 into Wolfpack Speed Friday for a dyno tune via Ed Hutchings (Hi-Tech Tuning) using HP Tuners.

Stock 427 LS7 engine
Stock ported heads
Fast 102 Inatke
BTR Custom Cam
Nick Williams 102 throttle body
ARH 1 7/8" longtube headers w/ 3" collector
ARH 3" X-pipe with hi-flow cats
LG4 3" catback exhaust
Vararam CAI

The car made 463 rwhp and 438 rwtq with the Vararm CAI only and not tuned.

Hoping to crack the 600 rwhp mark....wish me luck!

I will post up dyno sheet and video.

That car is going to be sick this year! Looking forward to dyno results. 608rwhp is my guess

Most Z06's with similar combo's make around 550-570 rwhp, some of the better ones get into the 580-590 range but not many break the 600 mark.

I think its definitely possible with my combo to break the 600 mark but well see tomorrow for certain.

Id be happy with anything over 600 but id really like to get over 615 to be honest....for some reason I have the number 617 rwhp stuck in my mind...lol

Yeah Ive dropped almost 100 lbs off of the car from last year. Most of that weight is rotational mass so it should help plenty!

Can just mess with dyno calibration if you really want to see it. Shit put it in STD correction and you'll probably have it. Remember at the end of the day dynos are tuning tools and can't be compared against other dynos even of the same model. Track numbers are what matter. :)

Anything can be skewed.

Using nothing more than a wet rag and a hair dryer, we were able to blow a hot, humid blast of air over the weather station during a dyno run. According to the dyno, the air in the room during our test was over 118-degrees and soaked with 29-percent humidity, resulting in an SAE correction factor of 1.07. In reality, the room was actually 83-degrees, meaning the motor ingested cooler, denser air resulting in more power. The result? An "extra" 17.91-rwhp and a reported "gain" of over 4.41-percent! And that's only a 35-degree jump, imagine what would happen if you dyno tested a car in 50-degree weather, but the station thought it was 150 outside! Truth be told, this is the most abused (we've seen it many times) and common dyno trick and it is something you should look out for. Fortunately, Dynojet (and many other companies) record and save weather station data for every run, so all you need to do is ask for the weather station data for a run to verify its authenticity. No weather station data, no care!

Ed will be tuning it remotely just as if he was sitting there. The car will be on the dyno and making hits and he will view them and make changes as needed until we get the car where we want it. Same exact thing as doing it with him there, he will have access to all the same information.

Yeah I was out crusing in it today and it is an absolute handful on the street! Even at 65-70mph if I hammer it, it will get all over the place! Its a blast to drive!

nice numbers rob , will you need more fuel pump too ?

Were gonna wire up the fuel pump to get more voltage to increase the pressure some just to be on the safe side.

congrats!

I'd love to see how it stacks up against your brother's car.......................

If he would have left it modded as it was last year it would have been a pretty good race but he just completely re-did the whole car, engine, turbos, fuel system, trans, clutch, etc... as he blew it up at the end of last year and the engine needed re-done so he re-did everything....it should be making 900+ HP at the wheels.

What MPH range do you expect out of it now at say PRP on a "decent day" D/A wise for that track?

Im not really sure, Im guessing it will go 137-139 and maybe on perfect days with really good DA it may eclipse 140.

The goal for the car is 9 sec. e.t. and 140 trap.....Its probably gonna take a tone of work, testing, and a boatload of passes to get it there but i'll keep pressing till I get it there. Once I hit those goals I may throw a 150-200 shot on it and go for broke but thats atleast a year away....just gonna focus on dialing in the current combo.

See some quicker N/A combos swap out the 3.42's for 4.10's.

They don't make gears for the Z06's so you have to swap out the Z06 rear for a base Vette rear and have it machined to fit the Z06 trans, etc which end up being a $4k+ ordeal just to get gears or believe me I would of had a set of gears awhile ago if it was as easy as just buying gears and installing them. Another downfall to swapping to a base Vette rear-end to do gears is that the case is much weaker than the Z06 case so your losing out there....

I for one cant believe that not one gear manufacturer didn't step up to the plate and make at-least 2-3 seats of gears for the Z06. I bet they would sell like hotcakes!

Do the Z's have upgraded half shafts? That seems like serious power to push thru an IRS on a street car.

No the half-shafts are the same on all Corvettes but I broke one last year and upgraded both of them. I "should" be good to go now but I didnt buy too strong of half-shafts cause if they don't give then either the rear-end or trans is gonna have to give out and they are both very expensive to fix and very time consuming. Half-shafts are pretty cheap and I can swap both of them out in about an hour. Id much rather have them as my "fuse" per say.

You have some serious upgrades in your T-5 Bob - mine is vintage 1985 stuff. I need to educate myself on the question of upgrading the guts of the T5 vs going with a beefier tranny, while learning what tranny can be squeezed into my car without cutting the trans tunnel. I've heard a TKO won't for without a fair amount of cutting & welding. And I'd like to go with a blow proof bell, but still unsure if that would fit and if that would force me to go with different headers. Also have the clutch cable running in that area - not much room and lots of heat.

If I was going for all out HP I would probably ditch the cats, get an electric water pump, bigger headers, higher compression, meth injection, etc... but I just want something that I can jump in and drive to Florida or go to the drag strip or autocross and be competitive.

Beautiful car, and awesome numbers.

What's this BS they don't make gears for a corvette z06?

RPM and Dynotech both make them. most c6z guys go with 390's as it lets you keep a small amount of top end.

I run 4:11's in my C5 and they are just a wee bit too much for long distance cruising.

Some awesome power numbers. slightly larger headers might make it a difference.

If your going to hit 9's you'll need gears or slicks and skinnies with a little weight reduction. I have seen very few N/A z06's run 9.99 or less

Thanks man!

They don't make them for the C6Z06, believe I would already have them.

Yeah theres only a small handful of HCI C6Z guys that have broke into the 9's. I got a few tricks up my sleeve and I know its gonna be a tough long road but thats my goal for the car. It may take me awhile to get there but i'll eventually do it!:awsome:

Yeah, I still need to get my new clutch and flywheel in the car then do a 500 mile break-in on them before I can romp on it. Then I have to get my new injectors and fuel pump booster in it then get it re-tuned. Hopefully I can get all this done in time for opening day! LOL Wish me luck!

I need to educate myself on the question of upgrading the guts of the T5 vs going with a beefier tranny, while learning what tranny can be squeezed into my car without cutting the trans tunnel.

LOL, not wanting to further derail Rob's thread, lol .... When you want, start a thread on those topics ... lots of option with G-force / Astro and even Z spec, then things like Quicktime for the bell, etc ... Easier to do in another thread.

Yeah that's a base C6 rearend that they put gears in and then do special machining to it to make it mate up to a Z06. The swap runs about $3500-4000.

Like I said they dont make gears specifically for the Z06 rearend.

Only way to do gears in a Z06 is to swap out the whole rearend for a base rearend as they make gears for the base model C6's.

Point being that you cant buy a set of $200-300 gears and install them into a C6Z like you can in most other cars. You have to spend a few thousand dollars and use the weaker base C6 case.

Must agree with Speed Racer on that one.

So they make it.. it's stronger than a C6z diff case you just don't want to spend the money...

you don't just "insert hick voice" toss dem geerz in like an ole mufftang. the rear ends have to be professional setup it even takes the pros 4-5 tries on the bench to get them right.

the bottom line is "nobody makes gears for my car" is bullshit. also an upgraded LSD will be needed if you plan to do much drag racing at the 600 rwhp power level. and if you want to add a 200 shot. you might as well get a dedicated drag car to drag race because your going to blow the clutch, rear end or trans in the c6z now if it's a few passes here and there, that's one thing, but if your chasing a time slip that's another.

Speedracer, do you ahve flashbacks every time you see a yellow C6z of that poor guy that about died on route 50?

gmkillr
03-11-2014, 09:28 PM
If by "they make gears for the C6Z" you mean "you can take a different rearend and have custom machining done to it to work with the Z after a few thousand dollars" then I guess I agree with you.....they do make gears for it....lol

Either way the car is a street car that wears many different hats...I cruise it on the streets with my son, take it to the drags, take it to autocross, take it to cruis -ins and I think it does each of these pretty well so im not going to sacrifice its tameness on the street for a few tenths in the 1/4 or anything else.

Car should go bottom 10's without a ton of work, probably gonna need a good bit of seat time to pull off a 9.....time will tell! :highfive:

Depends. I ran an 11.92 on my 28's last year followed by a 11.88 the next pass on a borrowed set of 26's. The 26's were Z06 fitment and too big for what I need they were 3xx wide, I think 305. I am going to run a 275/40/17 this year. They should be a bit better due to less mass.

The 28's bought me enough gear that I didn't have to hit 4th at the end of the track, I can do it on the 26's as well but then I'm pulling to damn near 7k just to avoid that shift. I will play around with it at a track rental at Quaker in June and see what nets me the best ET's... either letting it shift to 4th or winding out 3rd.

Might be close HP wise but the ZL1 is over 4100lbs and the Z06 is 3100lbs. Z06 also isn't shaped like a brick. So yeah it probably would be ugly. Only advantage cam has is the auto :)

One advantage Cam has going for him is that his Mullet is way more aerodynamic than my haircut. Hoping to be out running at the Street car night this Friday at PRP. Still wont be running a full power, waiting on Ed Hutching to get this thing finished tuning.
