I think this race will be a lot of fun. I'm sure we're going to see co-driver's holding stopwatches or timers on their phones, trying to see what works best to be around the index, and a lot of people hopping from car to car to take a ride.

ok,so obviously i'm a noob in every sense of the word when it comes to drags.can someone explain what an index race is as simple as possible? "I are idiot!"

either way,ill be there

The goal will be to run as close as possible to the index, such as D42's Hangover Nationals, where the index will be 20.10 seconds this year since it is 2010. The goal will be to go as close to that # as possible. Most cars can easily run that fast so you have to figure out how much to slow down hence the stop watches etc.

ok,like i said,im a noob,so this probably sounds dumb to most but the only dumb questions are the ones not asked.so my question is,if they say the "index is 20.5" and my car runs a 13.4 normally, does that mean i have to cross the line as close to 20.5 as possible? im assuming thats what you mean.

You got it. So the goal is to actually slow down to the given index. Word of the wise though, I wouldn't bring your 13.40 car (if that is what you have). There won't be any prep...heck it might even be raining. Just a regular old street car will do the trick just fine.

Casey, if you (or anyone) bring your Mustang, just realize that there will be zero track prep. If you do, don't hit full throttle at all. The index race is still a bracket race, except that the dial in is set for all cars, rather than each driving dialing in, like the gambler's race you saw Saturday. So reaction time still plays its role. The way you might hit the index is to break the beams for reaction time, then just coast for 5 seconds or so before easing half way into the throttle. If you have someone to ride with you holding a stop watch or timer, that will help. Going under the index is a breakout, like in regular bracket racing.

Mark (NovaPRP) and I love questions about drag racing, so fire away!

BBElky, always wanted to hit D42's hangover nationals. That seems like a cool time, and I've met some of their racers, really nice guys. But family stuff always prevents it.

I'm definitely going to be there with a few friends if I'm not busy. My mid 13 NPI will turn into a 17 second car with no prep and street tires! Not sure if I even want to take that car though yet. Probably just gonna trade off cars with my friends, bringin an 02 exploder and a 4 banger s10 with a wing on it so far haha.

I Don't get home until Saturday night or I would have been in for this. The Ram in 4x4 would be a pretty good fit. Not a lot of brake needed there and you can see the finish line really good :D

It's going to be a lot of fun. I can see folks making their pass, and then coming back and hopping in with their buddies as someone else makes a pass. The flyer is missing gate time, which is 11am. I'll post up when racing will start. Part of it depends on when lunch will be ready from the caterer.

There should be plenty of laughs. Greg is serious about wanting everyone to come out and be as a family, spend time together. Most important is who you spend your time with, not what you have or what you're doing.
