Hey guys dont pick on my new best buddy in the whole world. I think he likes me but is afraid to show his feelings. He sure wants to fight me and I am not even the one that said the worst stuff about him. Whats up with that?

Ok anyhow The KB runs great but I need a driver mod in the worst way. That and something with the clutch is driving me crazy. I was running street tires and I didnt let any air out so I knew they were going to be slick. I didnt have much prep time. lol I would leave off idle and roll into it but when the time came to shift, I could pull it out of gear but it wouldnt go in very easy. It felt like I was power shifting and took force to get it into second. No grinding or anything like that just felt like it was hitting a wall and I had to force it in. Could this be the stock clutch getting locked to the flywheel some how? The thing was hot thats for sure. This shifting issue was killing my times!
12.7 at 116 :rotflol: I had fun and this was my first time out so it was a learning experiance.

My three runs were 14.0 13.4 12.7 So I was learning fast just ran out of time and clutch. BTW I won all but the last one and then I only lost by .0317. Damn was that close! He got me at the light my .48 to his .18 (Oh I ate a hot dog so that lost me the other .0017. lol

I'd never race a car with that power on street tires, no point IMO.
Let my know if you need a driver, I'll get it down the track for you but we'll need to borrow some tires :)

That's exactly what it sounds like to me too. Sounds like you need some additional air gap as I experienced the same problem with my car. I didn't think you did anything recently to mess with the clutch though.

it sounds like you might need to " double clutch it " to get it into second gear . thats what i do sometimes

I have the firewall adjuster, the free play adjuster (big spring on the clutch cable), steeda quick release quadrent and a pedal height adjuster. I did this last summer to correct an issue I was having when going into third, the same thing that is happeneing now in all gears at the FLDs.

You are correct about not making any changes to the clutch this summer. My thinking is that the added heat/stress might be causing this. It shifts fine while driving on the street but the more load I put on the car the harder it is to get into gear. Now if I granny shift and let off the gas for a second it goes right in but thats no fun and basicly what I was doing.

I wasnt expecting to run 100% right off the bat thats why I didnt bother with the ET streets that are sitting in storage. I figured that I will put them on after I get some of the bugs worked out.

Clutches do expand, especially at the track, when hot and this decreases air gap which can lead to what you are experiencing. Walt at pro-motion always suggest to check the clutch adjustment after each pass as some adjustment may be necessary as they get hot and expand.

I figured thats what it was. I have never had the clutch that hot before. Remember that this was the first all out beat down with the KB installed so the clutch was WAY hotter than it ever was before.

Just so I have this in my head right...I want to make an adjustment so the clutch disengages closer to the top of the pedal movment. AKA less slack in the cable.

Didnt see this till today, i was there last night. Were you racing your car? I was driving the black 89 convertible mustang with the saleen body kit. Best time was 6.9 at 101mph 1/8. 11.1 at 104mph 1/4. The turbo pipe blew off the throttle body at the 1000ft mark, i was so close to my first 10sec pass. :hissyfit:

Thanks. I thought i blew the engine when the pipe came off so i hit the brakes. I was running 130mph last year with the T5 , so it should have easy 10s in it.

Glad you had a blast, I feel the same way. Win or lose, all I want to do is go again. And it's a lot of fun to talk to other people who feel the same way. I always consider it the quarter mile car show. You guys have some cool rides, with impressive builds and times.

Ruthless, other then getting some tires. Try giving your firewall adjuster atleast 1/2 turn out if your having slight issues shifting. I found mine will shift nice on the street but needs 1/2 turn out at the track or it gets real picky. I'll turn it back in 1/2 turn when done for day.

You will have to mess with it to see what works best but 1/2 turn seems to work well.

Well we all need it in some degree's. :)

Ryan,

The main thing is you atleast went to the track and had a good time. It's way more fun to race at the track than watch someone make a pull on a dyno. Keep practicing and you'll see the times dropping. :goodidea:

yeahloh95 has a driver mod service he offers at PRP and other tracks as well. He will guarantee a minimum of 3 tenths reduction in e.t. as long as the customer is rockin' three pedals, cause like he says "two pedals are for bicycles".:bike:

Sounds like a plan! I have ET streets but I didnt have time to bolt them on. I have been reading about shifting issues and I am going to flush the trans and put in some GM/Pennzoil Synchromesh and mess with the firewall adjuster a bit. This car pulls hard but having to wait for the RPMs to drop to slide it into gear is a PITA.

Thanks for the input guys. I am sure with some messing around I will get this sorted out.
