My buddies mustang starting popping. Found out the spark plug pushed thru the treads. Could not re-tap. Had to heli-coil it. Guy at tha parts counter said happens all the time on 4.6/5.4 motors. I never heard of it. Any one else? How do we run all that boost if this is common?

My dads 2001 F250 with 5.4 blew one out. Destroyed coil and I had fixed it with a Heli-Coil sleeved thread insert but that lasted exactly a month before same cylinder did it again. Ripping the plug/insert clean out of head. A mechanic was able to borrow the repair kit off a Ford dealer and fixed it for my dad for $155 including new coil and plug again.

I'm keeping track how long this lasts.

I know the early 4.6/5.4 trucks had this problem alot. From what I hear there is only a few threads for the plug to catch. I also heard that Ford fixed the problem in the later years.
